Nurse Ruth came to tell us how women volunteered to be nurses during the First World War.

She showed us how to tear sheets into strips to make bandages.
2/15
The girls in Class 2 were keen to volunteer!
3/15
Nurse Ruth made caps for them.
4/15
Our VADs practised their bandaging skills on some willing victims!
5/15
We had some quite serious injuries to deal with ...
6/15
... but we were equal to the task!
7/15
We made our way over to the Parish Hall for the Commemoration event. Some of us needed crutches!
8/15
We heard about some of the people from Hexhamshire who were involved in WW1.
9/15
Some soldiers from the Northumberland Fusiliers came to talk to us.
10/15
We had our picture taken with the Northumberland Fusiliers. We have learned a lot about World War 1 and how our local area was affected.
11/15
It was very moving to hear the Bugler play 'The Last Post', before we presented our Poppy wreath and Andrew, our vicar, re-dedicated the plaque with the names of the fallen from both wars.
12/15
We brought over our books containing work we had done on WW1, and the pictures we had painted.
13/15
We looked at the display of photographs and letters from people in Hexhamshire who were involved in the war.
14/15
Nurse Ruth served us Tea and biscuits in Mess tins.
